Sunsets or Sunrises

Image
I May Be Obsessed     I really love the sun and the colors that make the sky. The pictures above were recently taken. Almost every time I see a pretty sky in general I take a picture but the sun always does something really magical to the sky.     I took the first picture, on the left, as I was driving (I made sure I was safe). It was after I woke up early for morning lacrosse lifts and was driving to school. I saw the sun peaking over the horizon and was able to capture a real picture of the sun looking very orange and making everything to the left and right of it turn pink. I also really like how the rest of the sky was still asleep and dark. I think cloudy sunrises are the best sunrises because the sun always reflects off the clouds and each cloud sits in the sky a different shade.      The next picture, in the middle, was taken as I was driving (safely again!) and it was a really pretty sunset. I was driving to pick up one of my friends. I r...

Keep the River on Your Right: A Modern Cannibal Tale

Image
Keep The River on Your Right     A documentary directed by David and Laurie Shapiro tells a tale about a man, Tobias, who was lost in the forest of Peru. He was left to live among the people and learn their ways. He was and still is called a cannibal to this day because as the Harakambut tribes culture, they would raid villages and eat the people they killed. They also show how he lived with the people of Asmat and how they were also cannibals.      A scene in the documentary that got to me was actually one of the opening scenes. Tobias is on a boat with tourists who go around the islands in Indonesia. They all get off the boat to watch a ritual. The people in this village have a ritual for young boys to be circumcised. They show needles filled with substances and little boys crying. Tobias was narrating how scared the boys looked with all these people around looking down at them. The boys were held down on the table and the doctors went to work. They act...

Visual Literacy

Image
Visual Literacy     What is visual literacy? By definition, it is: a set of abilities that enables an individual to effectively find, interpret, evaluate, use, and create images and visual media" (ALA, 2011, Pg.1). Thus indicating that each individual person, may perceive an image differently based on how they may perceive the world or how the image is shown and in what context. What all goes into visual literacy? First, one must analyze a picture/ social media, after carefully looking into the picture and understanding it as a whole one will be able to make a judgement about the image. Everybody's visual literacy is different, in the way one may perceive an image in comparison to another, it all has to do with how somebody perceives something based on their life and experiences.      Next, In Pearson E text article, The authors imply that a person who captures an image of something can draw different types of feelings and emotions to ...

Challenges & Experiences

Image
Challenges     Honestly, I haven't had too many  challenges yet during my time here. The most challenging part is driving to and from school. Sometimes I have to be at practice or lifts at 6 or 7 AM. But other days I don't even have to be here until 1:45. Driving home also isn't fun. I've been staying on campus until like 1 AM almost every night which is fun until I have to drive thirty minutes home. But, having driving be my biggest challenge is so worth it. I've made some really close friends that I'm really happy to have. I also am challenged with not having a dorm. Not yet, I'm planning on moving on campus soon which I'm super, super excited about. I won't have to wake up extra early, I'll be able to just have a chill day and shower here after practice.  Experiences     During the last couple of weeks I've made so many new memories, some that I will  definitely remember for the rest of my life. I won't elaborate too much but, it was d...

Current Favorite Picture

Image
First Pic at NCC      I took this photo on the first night of welcome week. This picture was taken in 0.5 which means “zoomed out” in todays terms. I like the different colors from the lights (blue and purple). The lights add a more fun, colorful vibe. I also think the foam and people in the foam in the background shows people just having fun. This image is raw and unedited. I didn’t want to take out anything in the background because I felt like it adds to the picture. I also like how this picture is because the subject (Maddy and I) are dead center and are the focal point.       This picture was taken the first night of welcome week. That morning I was leaving my house to come to campus and my mom said: “Take lots of pictures!”. She even texted a reminder to my dad and I as we drove to NCC. I was so nervous to come to campus. I thought I was going to make no friends since I was commuting. When I walk into a room with my future lacrosse team. There we...
