My Lacrosse Journey
The Beginning
I'll give credit where credit is deserved. Jocelyn, my older sister, is the one who got me into playing lacrosse. She started in 8th grade and continued all the way through college. She played the game for nine years! She definitely had/has a love for the game. She got me into a couple months before I started high school, so going into my summer camp before freshman year would be easier.
The camp was cool, I felt like I was ahead and I was proud of myself for going to play with my sister. Coach EG, always told us that every day that we practiced was a day that we sucked a little less. I live by that quote. Practicing something I was unfamiliar with was super uncomfortable but in hindsight, it was so worth it. Even now I live by this motto; if I am trying to practice or fine-tune a new skill then I need to keep practicing so I can get better and better each day.
High School Career
So, unfortunately, my freshman year was COVID year. So I maybe had two weeks of practice before everyone was sent home for a year. But, in the following spring of my sophomore year, I was able to play again. I started off on JV and absolutely killed it so after two games I was moved up to starting varsity which was super intimidating but I still did it. Played an okay season, but was determined to get the ball more next season and that's exactly what I did. I played on the True Lacrosse club team and learned a lot of crucial movements and ideas that helped me later. Then, one of my friends told me about a different club called Yeti, so I joined that for the fall. Yeti was super fun and I enjoyed it more than ever I had made some friends that I'm still friends with today.
Junior year started off really good until I had my year of injuries. First, I tore a ligament in my toe and was out for two long weeks. Within those two weeks, I missed some very competitive games that I wished I played in. After recovering and playing one game, I stepped onto the field for a sectional playoff game. I started off the game with a really good goal. Afterward, I came running down the field until I heard a loud pop after making a move on my defender. I fell to the ground and held my knee. Days later after an x-ray and a MRI, I learned that I tore my ACL. This was a major setback in my journey but it definitely taught me not to take anything for granted because anything could happen. After a long ten months of rehab after surgery, I was able to get back to playing. I finished my senior year as captain and all-conference. I had committed to play lacrosse at North Central the fall before my season so I knew where I was going for school.
Currently...
So, now I am in college and in my "Fall Ball" season of lacrosse. It's so fun playing at the next level and I already feel myself getting better every practice. I'm doing things that I couldn't imagine myself doing and it's not even the regular season yet. I'm really excited to see where my lacrosse career goes and I'm excited for what I learn and who I meet along the way!
